Context:  The Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families (CUP) was created in 2000 to facilitate collaborations in research, education, and knowledge sharing among University, community, and government organizations in the areas of child, youth, and family development. CUP is coordinating a longitudinal community-based research project, Families First Edmonton (FFE), to test the best way of providing services linkages for families with low incomes.  FFE researchers have recruited 1200 families with low incomes and are following them for 3 years to monitor individual and familial outcomes as a result of four different intervention group placement (Recreation Coordination, Family Healthy Lifestyle, Comprehensive, and Self-Directed).  The implementation of the project started in January 2006, and the intervention is almost completed.

Duties:

•    Reviews and synthesizes project-related literature
•    Assists in developing and implementing a web based survey
•    Collects data and conducts interviews
•    Undertakes quantitative analysis from databases and statistical packages such as SPSS
•    Prepares manuscripts and reports such as user-friendly handbook on how to recruit vulnerable families into a research project
•    Assists researchers writing project and grant proposals to secure further research funding
•    Assists with data management
•    Collaborates with other research staff
•    Other duties as required

Qualifications:

•    Undergraduate degree in education, health promotion, human ecology, nursing, psychology, or social work preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
•    Knowledge and experience with quantitative research such as descriptive, univariate and multivariate
•    Knowledge and experience in advanced statistical analysis in SPSS.
•    Excellent writing skills are required
•    Strong organizational skills
•    Ability to work independently, be flexible and adapt to changing demands

News and updates: 

December 9th, 2009: The CBC Annual Turkey Challenge is almost underway in support of the Edmonton Food Bank to raise enough money to provide turkeys to families in need during the holiday season. As a kick off of the CBC Turkey Challenge, the Community-University Partnership (CUP) is hosting a Waffle Breakfast fundraiser! The different portfolios at CUP are having a competition for the best waffle topping and the stakes are high (i.e., glory and bragging rights) and Fantasia Café is donating its delicious coffee, so be sure to stop by!

$3 will buy you half a waffle + toppings; $5 will get you the full waffle experience PLUS your chance to enter a raffle draw.

First prize is a pair of GOLD CLUB seats Oilers tickets (valued at over $500 and generously donated by the Edmonton Journal) and second prize is a pair of Oilers tickets donated by one of our wonderful CUP staff.

July 23, 2009: To complete CUP's transition into the Faculty of Extension, we moved our office into our new home at the U of A's downtown campus located in Enterprise Square.
